The Boston and Maine Railroad’s Connecticut River Line is a point-to-point freelance-prototype layout depicting the
rail line between Springfield, MA and White River Jct., VT. The railroad is HO scale and is set in the year 1959.

The 120-foot mainline features mostly single track with passing sidings. A helix connects the upper and lower decks.
There are two major yards representing Springfield, MA and White River Jct., VT. Staging yards at each end of the
layout handle northbound and southbound trains. Five towns are represented along the route providing numerous
industries for trains to serve. There is also a branch line that provides operating interest. Track is commercial code 83 with turnouts from Atlas and Walthers. About 50% of the layout has scenery.

Motive power is primarily first generation diesel locomotives. Most trains are freight, both through freight and local, but the occasional mail, express, and passenger train adds variety. Rolling stock is comprised of era-appropriate freight and passenger cars. Structures are mostly kits, but some kit-bashed industries are found on the layout. Locomotives are controlled by an NCE DCC system.

The layout can support 12 to 14 trains at the same time. Train control is by verbal train orders. Car routing is
accomplished using four-sided car cards.

Welcome to The Connecticut Yankee 2022 Website. The Nutmeg Division invites all NMRA members to join us at this exciting event. The Northeastern Region Convention is in Windsor, CT (8 miles north of Hartford). The convention runs September 15–18, 2022. The Marriott Hartford / Windsor Airport Hotel, conveniently located at Exit 38 of I-91, is our venue.

The convention program begins at noon on Thursday, September 15, and concludes with the Awards Breakfast on Sunday morning. In between, an extensive number of activities are available to attendees: 51 clinic presentations, 22 layouts open for visits, 13 operating sessions, and contests for models and photos. A rare-mileage excursion on the Naugatuck Railroad will run on Friday. Numerous outside attractions, having both rail and general interest themes, are available within a short distance from the hotel.

A welcome reception with snack foods and cash bar takes place on Thursday evening. Saturday evening is set aside for the convention banquet in the spacious ballroom. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the fellowship of your fellow modelers. Greet old friends, meet new ones, and enjoy a meal together. On Sunday morning come to the Awards Breakfast, wherein the winners of the Model and Photo Contests are announced, and recognition is given to new AP Certificate recipients.

Layouts

The Connecticut Yankee 2022 will offer visits to local layouts as well as display layouts in the ballroom. One of the long-time staples of NER conventions are visits to home layouts in the local area. These visits will be scheduled for Thursday afternoon, Friday morning and Saturday morning. Please watch this space for a listing of layouts that will be open as they are committed.

Operations

The Connecticut Yankee 2022 will offer operations sessions on local model railroads. These sessions will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis based upon your registration number. So if operations is one of your great interests, register early to have the best chance of being assigned to the sessions in which you have the most interest.

Operations sessions will be scheduled Thursday afternoon, Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon. Please watch this space for a list of the operations sessions as they are confirmed.

Trips

The Connecticut Yankee 2022 will offer visits to local venues of interest. While rail related venues are limited in the greater Hartford area, that is not the case for non-rail related venues.

In addition Connecticut Transit is now running commuter trains from Springfield MA to New Haven, CT. These trains stop to pick up and discharge passengers in Windsor. The hotel offers shuttle service to and from the train station.
